Mood: Quiet and Reflective
Vibe: 9:00pm, its freezing outside, and I am slightly buzzed from my glass of wine
View: Taking in the city lights as I cross the Brooklyn Bridge
Tune: Silence
Yesterday was a lot—a rollercoaster of emotions that started before I even stepped out the door.
As the mom of an active 8-month-old, mornings are rarely calm. But yesterday felt especially overwhelming. Before I knew it, I’d already cycled through a range of emotions—dominated by exhaustion (because insomnia has been winning lately)—all before noon.
By midday, I had to shake off the chaos and step into a different version of myself. Somehow, I pulled it together, got dressed, and made the trek from New Jersey to Brooklyn to lead my workshop, Elevate Your Brand, for the Brooklyn Public Library’s Level Up Program. My audience? A dynamic group of Black and Brown leaders ready to reflect on their personal narratives and elevate their professional impact.
Real talk: showing up wasn’t easy. I arrived almost an hour early, needing time to catch my breath, ground myself, and become the version of me who could lead this session. Somewhere between those deep breaths and taking time to just be, I found my rhythm.
The session focused on a question I know well: What’s your brand story? While I was there to guide others in uncovering theirs, I couldn’t help but reflect on my own. Guiding others through their narratives reminded me why owning my own story matters—why it’s not just about what I’ve done but how I’ve defined it for myself. I was reminded that being a multi-hyphenate, multi-passionate person isn’t just part of who I am—it’s essential. And I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the work I do and the people I get to support.

But the day wasn’t done with its reminders yet.
As I was leaving, I ran into one of the attendees on the corner. What started as a casual goodbye turned into a heartfelt conversation about her goals, her why, and the self-work I’ve done to find my own. We ended up walking to a bar in my old stomping grounds—her current neighborhood—before parting ways. That unexpected connection turned into a full-circle moment I didn’t even know I needed.
I’d already decided to grab a seat at the bar and enjoy a glass of wine for a moment of stillness before heading back home. The bartender? A vibe. Somewhere between chatting about an array of things, he hit me with, “Are you walking in your career path?”
Pause. Process. Reflect.
My response? I believe I am walking in my purpose. I’m itching to explore what is next and how I can continue to evolve, but I am walking in my purpose. It was another reminder—a nudge, really—that I’m closer than I think to the next level of this journey.
Yesterday didn’t start cute. It wasn’t smooth. But in the messiness of it all, I found moments that grounded me. Life has a funny way of showing up like that, doesn’t it? From the workshop to the street corner to the bar, I was reminded of this:
✨ Even when the day starts in chaos, clarity can find you.
✨ Even when you feel like you’re just holding it together, you’re likely doing better than you think.
✨ And sometimes, the biggest lessons come when you least expect them—on a street corner, in a bar, or in the middle of a workshop you weren’t sure you had the energy to lead.
Even in the chaos, clarity can find you. Even on the hard days, there are silver linings.
